Google’s Project Tango

Last week, Google announced “Project Tango”, a phone designed to map the world around it.  A product of Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group, the five-inch Android device uses custom sensors “to make over a quarter of a million 3D measurements every second” and builds a 3D model of the space around it.
